Services for Survivors/Victims of Domestic Abuse

At Resolve WNY, we know that abuse doesn’t end with leaving — survivors need ongoing, practical support to navigate courts, co-parenting, and rebuilding their lives. We do not replace attorneys or therapists. Instead, we fill the gap between the counselor, the court, and the survivor by providing advocacy, documentation, and empowerment.

Documentation & Organization
We assist survivors in creating structured and detailed records that can be used to support their cases. This includes incident logs and journals that capture timelines of abuse, violations, and parenting conflicts, as well as organizing evidence such as text messages, emails, and photos into clear, accessible packets for attorneys and courts. We also help survivors put their stories into words by drafting personal statements and affidavits in their own voice, without adding legal interpretation, ensuring their experiences are presented accurately and authentically.

Court Support & System Navigation
Our advocates provide support for survivors as they navigate complex court systems. This may include attending hearings to provide moral support, note-taking, and organizational help (not legal representation), as well as offering general explanations of what to expect in family, criminal, or housing court. We assist with forms and applications related to victim compensation, housing requests, school safety plans, and benefits, and connect survivors to trusted attorneys, therapists, shelters, and community agencies who can provide additional specialized support.

Coaching & Empowerment
We offer survivors practical tools and strategies for rebuilding independence and confidence. This includes coaching around setting boundaries and communicating with manipulative or narcissistic ex-partners, particularly in co-parenting situations, and guidance on using parallel parenting methods such as written logs or parenting apps to reduce conflict. Our empowerment coaching helps survivors set personal goals, build self-confidence, and take steps toward creating a life free from abuse.

Peer Support & Resources
We believe in the power of community and peer connection. Survivors can take part in empowerment circles—safe, non-clinical groups led by an advocate where experiences are shared and validated. We also host workshops on practical topics such as documentation as self-care, navigating family court, and building healthy boundaries after abuse. Additionally, we help survivors access resources by connecting them to housing, food, childcare, and other essential local services.

What We Don’t Do
Resolve WNY is committed to clear boundaries in our advocacy. We do not provide legal advice or representation, we do not draft or file motions or petitions on behalf of survivors, and we do not provide counseling or clinical therapy. Our role is focused on advocacy, documentation, and practical support.

Confidentiality & Safety Disclaimer (NYS)
Resolve WNY maintains confidentiality to the fullest extent permitted by law. Information shared with us is private and will not be disclosed without consent, except when required under New York State law. This includes situations involving intent to harm oneself or others, or cases of child abuse or neglect. Our role is advocacy and documentation support only—we do not provide legal advice or clinical therapy.

Why Survivors & Providers Choose Resolve WNY
Survivors turn to us because we reduce the sense of overwhelm that comes with navigating complicated systems. They feel heard, prepared, and empowered. Providers benefit from clients who are better organized, easier to represent, and more engaged in their care. Most importantly, survivors do not fall through the cracks between appointments, giving them stronger footing on the path to safety and healing.
